I took a picture of this Crane from the canoe within the backwaters taken off from the Verchota landing. I probably didn't make it a mile upstream before I got tired and headed back

The boys found this baby Spiny Softshell Turtle in a nearby lake. It's about the size of a silver dollar and it's shell was soft. It looked like a miniature sting ray swimming through the water.

Correction: I had written that the turtle above was a baby snapper. Nate told me that this was actually a Spiny-Soft Shell turtle. The only reason we thought it might be a soft shell is because we stuck a stick in front of it's mouth and it went for it. Thanks Nate.

Just checking if you correction needs a correction. I'm guessing you thought it was a snapper because it went after the stick.
But mainly I'm posting to ask if you weren't paying attention at the Mississippi river museum...uhm they had labels on these things. Ok enough snotty. I'll leave you alone.

That would be correct. insert snapper in place of soft shell on that last line. Cherity told me about that already but I didn't really care because I didn't think anyone would read it.

I must have missed the turtle exhibit when I was at the museum...3 YEARS AGO!! : )

I'm realizing more and more what a large variation of wildlife there is around this area. It's pretty cool.
