Scoby

Looks like an organ of some sort but is actually a
SCOBY: Symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (pronounced scooby... like the dog).
It's just fermented bacteria and yeast and it looks like a chicken breast. The fact that it can take on that kind of mass is a bit disturbing to me.
It's used to make some drink called Kombucha which is good for you in a lot of ways. Cherity says it tastes like a sour apple cider. I say it tastes like a flavored vinegar. This is Cherity's first try at it. We've only drank the store bought stuff, which you typically can only by at health/organic grocers.

Here's the drink brewing below. After this, Cherity will bottle it herself to make it fizzy... ? Later I'll tell you about Kimschi which is like sourkraut but different. Our house is a regular chemistry lab.

Oh my! :) Looking at this without reading the post I was thinking that you had taken a picture of a plastic bag filled with fat or you had taken up organ harvesting...yikes!

Yeah a bit disturbing I must admit. Cherity's sold on it.

It's especially weird that you get a scoby in the mail. If you hadn't ordered one and received it in the mail by mistake it would probably totally cause you to freak out.
