Using Vacation for a Multiple day Bike ride.
I've always had a sense of peace or contentment when walking, running, or just moving. I think it's in the genes. There's a lot of "pacers" in our family. Whenever I've been stressed or wired or whatever it's been a therapeutic stress reliever.
I was looking at some one's blog that took his bike and drove across a state and blogged about it as he made the trip http://www.martinator.com/bikenj/. I'm not sure how he did the blogging part? Must have had a laptop or sent pictures and posts via his cell phone (mo blog)...? Anyway, I've thought about this before as well. A while back a group of 20 something guys came to our church and were raising money for a cause (wish I could remember what it was). They were doing this by biking across the country on their bikes and stopping at churches to raise money. They had a website that you could go to and see how they were doing and see pictures. Although I don't have anything planned as grand as a 3 month biking trip across the U.S. (although that would be amazing!) I think I will definitely have to do something like that. Maybe blog a Hwy 61 trip. From Winona to Platteville. The planning would be fun. Platteville would only take two days. It's about 135 miles. Could actually do it in 1 if you were in good shape. I know guys around here who do 100 mile rides on Saturdays for fun. So maybe if I ever got in to shape I would consider a longer ride than 135 miles. But doing it in two would allow you to take back road routes and also you could stop at a camp site on the way down.
Now I just have to decide if I would have to do it by myself or if would consider recruiting some guys. I would like it to be leisurely but would prefer to do it with someone who could keep up somewhat of a pace(has some endurance) and has a road or touring bike.
One last thing. If I were to do this I wouldn't be able to do it till spring. :-(

Hey, I'm the one who biked across NJ and Mo-Blogged the trip on-the-fly with my cell phone :-) I even fashioned a handlebar mount for my phone so I could enter text without killing myself as I rode along @ ~15-20 mph :-) It is actually pretty easy to do once you have your celll phone set up to work with blogger.
I would definitely recommend you do it with a few like-minded friends. Just enough for a small paceline and no more. It was a great way to spend 3 days, one of them being my 38th birthday.
Wisconson is a bit bigger than NJ, but I imagine there is less traffic.
Good luck.
That sounds hard to do even with a handlebar mount!
Wisconsin is about 400 miles north to south and anywhere from 200 to a little over 300 miles east to west. Beautiful country, but can be hilly in parts.
Very cool to get a comment from you. I'm looking forward to the season. Are you gonna do something like that again this year? Look forward to reading about it if you do.
