So, in between bouts of depression, I can't help but show my incredible pride in having had Heather as a sister.
Let me tell you about her funeral. She didn't have one because she planned it all before hand. And instead of a funeral she had a Friends and Family celebration of life. And she had that celebration at the Zoo. That's right, the Columbus Zoo. I got to pet a Bearcat (yes they do exist) a Pink Flamingo, an Armadillo, and a Tortoise. There was also an Ant-eater and a Hawk. I guess Heather spent a lot of time at the Zoo with the kids.
The first thing everyone was required to do during the celebration was to apply a flower tatoo that had an H on it. We all wore them with pride as we listened to her friends tell stories about her. Her friends had been requested, by Heather, to tell only funny stories because she wanted everyone to laugh. We tried not to cry (not very successfully) because Heather didn't want us to. I did OK until the end when Joe told us that after Heather was gone he wasn't sure if Jack or Julia should get her wedding ring. He went to a drawer where he kept the rings and found the wedding band and the engagement ring each with a note... one that was labeled for Jack and one that was labeled for Julia. Well, that was it for me.
We took pictures of some of their beautiful pictures that were on the tables.

I am so sorry, but it sounds as though it was a meaningful service and all the more special because it had so much of her spirit involved.
We're thinking of you all here and wish we could have you over for a big meal of good food, listen to good music and give you big, bear hugs throughout!
Love and miss you all,
Jen (E & Z too)
p.s. Thanks for sharing too...
I'm so glad that you got that bottom picture. It is one of my favorites. It's on their living room wall- the room they called "Mommies room" or "Mommy land" or something. I have the others in a little book that Heather had in a gift bag for us. That and the family picture. How I cried when Joe handed me that bag with his comment that "I guess there is no good time to give you this but Heather wanted you to have this."
