This weekend the boys, the pups, and I went to Merrick State park. We took a long hike (Long for the boys and pups anyway). It actually would have been a perfect weekend to go camping. It was 50-60 degrees and sunny during the day and 30's at night. The best part about camping this time of year is that you have the whole state park to yourself. There was only one camper on the north site and two or 3 RVs on the south site. We saw a musk-rat and I actually was able to get the boys to sit quiet and still for about 5 minutes on a park bench with me as we watched the water in hopes to see the creature again. It was not to be, but the whole moment was more of an excuse for me to get the boys to be quiet for a while and enjoy the scenery. Definitely worth it.

I woke up early on Saturday morning to watch the Olympic trials for the Marathon online which was exciting. This was the race to see who gets to run in the Olympics. Two of the guys I was rooting for ended up qualifying for the Olympics which was fun. One strange thing about me... I follow professional distance running like most guys my age follow NFL an NCAA. I was shocked a little later (as was everyone) when it was announced that Ryan Shay died at the 5 1/2 mile mark. Apparently he has an enlarged heart and that is the likely cause of death.. I think... they're not for sure that's the cause of death yet. Still, crazy because this guy was actually an outside shot for possibly qualifying. I subscribe to this running forum that includes and is hosted by some d3 runners from the college conference I ran for. One of them was actually standing there where Shay dropped and watched as the paramedics tried to save him. Crazy.

On a lighter note, I'm as surprised as anyone that the Packers are now 7-1. Weird, huh?
