I just got back from taking the canoe to a Mississippi backwater lake. We (Kenny and I)went for sunfish and there was a lot biting. Not much of any size though. The coolest thing about this lake is the community of Blue Heron's just on the other side of the trees near the lake. It felt like fishing next to an airport. We would look up in the sky and see these Heron's flying back and forth overhead from their nesting area. There must have been hundreds of them. Kenny said he's been back where they nest and it has a very prehistoric feel with the huge nests and the sounds that the Heron's make. Heron's look like a bit like pterodactyl's as they fly through the air. With the backdrop of the bluffs one would think you were in the rain forest. Quite a sight to see. I might have to bring a camera out there.

Anyway, Kenny and I got to talking about possibly taking a day or two off from work and going out on the canoe and going camping. Something closer to real camping. You know... just the necessity's. A hatchet, toilet paper, a little bit of food... haven't worked the details out but the gears are starting to turn. The problem has always been finding someone who could take some time off during the week and just go. I've talked to Cherity about it and is enthusiastically supportive of something like this so there's little else but details holding me back. Now... I just need to research how close potential camping spots are compared to how remote they are. Remote beauty and a close proximity are my initial hopes.

There is actually an 11 mile canoe loop just north of town through the Mississippi backwaters. That was mentioned and part of the reason for the weekday trip is we wouldn't have to worry about finding a place to pitch tents due to people getting to a spot before us... Who knows... Fun to think about.

Reading again about your catching sunfish. I just heard from someone that he buried fish in his garden for the nutrients around the plants...so even when you get the ones that you might figure aren't worth the bother of fixing them to eat- they still are great for that!
