Another class down.

My intro class on our company's software convened late this morning. I had folks from Pequot Lakes, Winona, and 5 guys from Jackson, WI which I couldn't resist calling "The Jackson Five". I asked which guy went by Michael to which they all responded by pointing at the other guy.

Had a few of our programmers sit in on the class. I got a great compliment from one of them on my teaching and level of competence. It was an indirect compliment as he told someone else how I was doing which was cool (and it got back to me). Seems more genuine that way rather than someone just trying to be nice. Funny how I can thrive off of being thrown a bone occasionally. The whole teaching thing for me is totally surreal. Public speaking is one of those things I would have done anything to avoid at one time in my life.

I went out to eat with the Pequot guys and the Jackson Five. The Jackson guys were a hoot. One of them was in his Fifties (I think) and knew where every single Green Bay Packer from Super Bowl 1 up until about Super Bowl 20 or so went to college. The other Jackson guys would rattle off old players and he would snap back with their alma mater. It was very funny. I wish I had that kind of memory and if you ever get the trivia question "Who was the FIRST athlete to play on a winning super bowl team and play Major League Baseball?" ... I guess the answer is Tom Brown. Don't forget! I left the Jackson 5 at 9:00 and found that they didn't get back to their hotels until 1:00-1:30 AM. A few of them were struggling a bit in class this morning. I couldn't help but laugh. If they didn't get anything out of the class, at least they had fun. One of the guys was bragging to me that he didn't have to by a drink all night because they were playing dice and kept winning and one of the other Jackson guys kept losing (loser buys). It's the little things I guess....?
