The boys are asleep now... and the day is done. It was a long one. I woke up at 6:00 to go walleye fishing or that was the plan. I went with a guy who had a boat and we got out on the river at the crack of dawn. There was a brief moment when we first got there where the sun shone on the water just right to give off some cool colors that reminded me I had forgotten the camera and if I caught anything big I wouldn't have any documentation. Didn't catch a thing though, so no biggie. I think I'm bad luck for people who usually have pretty good fishing. My fishing partner said this place had been hot for the last couple of weeks.
I had chugged way too much coffee before going out which made for some serious bladder discomfort while fishing and with all the boats of the other hopeful fisherman too close by I wasn't about to, let's say, warm the waters. Instead I waited until we floated down stream.
We fished until about 9 and then sped back to shore because I had to bring Molly to the vet so she could get her Kennel Cough Shots and the rest of her immunizations. I guess a dog has to have those to stay at a kennel. We'll be needing to do that for Thanksgiving since we're going to my brother Andy's house. Last time we were at Andy's we brought the dog and I'm not sure who was more stressed out.... their cat, My brother and his wife, or Cherity and I due to having to watch how stressed Andy was getting. Bad move on our part. Live and learn. Anyway, Molly's extreme zest for life was amusing to watch at the vet as the vet's assistant tried to hold Molly while getting a face full of tongue from her in between attempts to jump off the table. In between the shots and the ear treatment (for a bit of an ear infection) they let Molly off the table and I have to say I'm amazed at how bad they were about latching the door to the elusive back room where the other vets and vet assistants hang out. (I didn't know vets liked playing twister?!) If there's a door with a crack Molly's going through it, Period. And to watch their surprise was perplexing and quite humorous at the same time. Molly's energy level is amazing. One of my favorite tricks is holding a toy at about eye level and watching Molly jump for it as I lift it just out of reach. No, it's not mean. Molly loves it. If I let her get the toy she crouches down and wants me to try to take it from her. I've learned there's no way to catch her, but I still try sometimes just so I can get my blood going and to entertain Molly. I'm 6'4" and Molly is to the point now where she could probably bite my nose when she jumps for the toy. She pays very little attention to where her body will land after she gets to the peak of her jump. A lot of times she' bounce off of my midsection.
OK... back on track. From the vets we raced back home to get some stuff and then headed to Lacrosse to watch the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Conference (WIAC) Conference Cross Country Championships. It turned out to be pretty nice out and Platteville won the individual titles on both sides. Sigl won it on the guy's side without much effort from the way it looked and Taddy won it on the girl's side with a closing kick which was amazing. The girl who was leading the whole race was ahead of Taddy by 10 seconds with less then a mile to go and with probably less then a quarter mile to go she was still ahead by 6 seconds. Taddy just ate her up. I would have hated to be that girl she beat. Talk about demoralizing. But as a spectator and Platteville fan it was an adrenaline rush to watch.
From there we took the boys to McD's which is just convenient because the boys love it. As much as I hate their food, you can't beat the playland. It was kind of hard to keep the boys sitting still and eating their food while I was playing in the ball pit and going down the slides.
From there we went home and Owen and I took Molly to the river to run her. I can't believe she still like swimming in the 40 degree water.
The boys watched a few videos and I fed them some grub and read them some books to keep them entertained. Sebby fell asleep watching a video early and I had to play Connect Four with Owen to appease him. After that I sat down with Owen and pulled "The Hobbit" off the shelf and read that to him until he fell asleep. I'm sure I didn't make it to page 10 before he was out.
And that leads me back to the state I'm at now. 10:00... pecking away at the keyboard... drinking a Blue Moon as I blow my red chafed nose. (sinus colds are fun!)
What did you do today?
