Sunday.
I ran 6 miles @ 7:00 pace on the treadmill. I then lifted weights. Holy Soreness, Batman! Surprisingly I'm feeling pretty good today. Not near as sore. Two weeks of consistency and I should be a happy camper. I think I'll be going for a run after small group tonight. My big question now is do I run in the morning or during lunch. I can fit 30 to 40 minutes of running in within an hour, so I could do that for a while, but I'm going to run out of time if I want to do any sort of satisfying mileage. I need to find an early or mid spring race as a goal or I'm going to fizzle out due to lack of interest. That's been my mistake in the past. I start running but have no plans of racing. Knowing you have a race you want to do causes you to commit to the work because you don't want to feel like a schmuck when you get to race day. My goal this year for the 5k is to break 16:00. I ran a 16:45 last summer on about 5 months of training. I took 3 months off and now have started running again. So, now that I've started training in Dec. This year (last year I started in April) I should (theoretically) have a better base and be able to run faster @ the same race this coming year (thus my hopes of breaking 16:00). I should set some goals for some longer races too. I would definitely love to be better @ some of those longer distances for sure. I went running with some guys this summer (on the track) and they were doing 10 x 1 mile repeats. I fortunately caught up with them half way through and did 5 which would definitely be my limit. Anyway, one of them said, rather disdainfully, that he ran a 10k and all these "5k" runners took off and he just thought to himself "5k runners" in a sort of disgusted way. I sort of smiled because I was one of those 5k runners. Only dif, is I wouldn't run a 10k unless I was ready for it, which those guys weren't from what this guy was inferring. Anyway, I'd love to get up to 50, 60 miles a week this summer and see what happens.
